I finally put my hand out and you know what happened…I was grabbed and embraced. I finally took the plunge that I have needed for some time now, I went to church.
This may sound silly to some people but I have recently, with some help from blogger friends, have decided to accept Christ into my heart. I didn’t grow up with anything remotely close to religion in my life, so when I told my hubby that I wanted to take this step he was set back a little. But he has been very supportive and understanding with the whole thing. However being new at all this I got side tracked and lost focus a few times, and he has always been the one to ask me if I have read my passage that day. What a hero I have.
Needless to say I have been putting of going to church for some time, only for the fact that I don’t want to go by myself. I had not stepped foot in a church since I used to go to youth group when I was still in high school.
So one day I go and pick up my honey from work, he turns to me and this is the convo we had…
Him: “So this Sunday you have a date with Zach’s mom?” {Zach is my honeys best friend}
Me: “Oh really”
Him: “You’re going to church! I was talking to her today and told her that you had been wanting to go to church and had been too scared to go by yourself. So she told me, to tell you that you have a date.”
Isn’t he the sweetest!

So on Sunday I went to church and it was the most amazing service EVER! I almost cried the whole time.
SIDE NOTE: I don’t know much about the bible, I know the basic. Adam & eve…and well that pretty much sums it up. I have watched movies, but let’s just say my knowledge is nil.

So after we were done singing {always been my favourite part} the guest speaker comes up and starts talking. And reading John 9, a man is born blind. I love how he explained it all and I could have cried.
“I was blind and now I see”
“Why this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes”
“I came into this world, that those who do not see may see”
And the way he described this part Ohh here comes the tears!
It was amazing and life changing. Since I have been going I have been reading my bible every night and listening to more Christian music just because I love singing. It is the way I communicate with him, some of its even educational :)
So thanks to wonderful friends here and in the blogging community I love so much, I have been able to be embraced with more love then I could have imagined, and I just love it.
I do you have any music that you like to listen to? I only know two right now that I am listening to. Tell me your favorites so I can try them out! I have a playlist on my ipod called Lovin my GOD, and I would love to fill it up. Let me know in the comments I would love to know!!!

Don’t forget to smile!

These are the lovely ladies that have helped me with every step that I have taken. Check out their blogs I know you will love them as much as I do♥

  9. Welcome Tamara to the family of Christ! Glad to have you as a "sweet sister"! My reading of the WORD today was JOHN 8 and 9. Then I read your testimony--AWESOME! This was not by accident. Thank You Lord, for you are so amazing!

  10. I am so happy for your decision to follow Christ and for stepping out and going to church. I'm sure it was intimidating. Bless the woman who went with you. :) It may be only one step but each step of obedience builds and moves you to the next step. Reading your Bible is key! I know it was for me. I didn't grow as a Christian until I started reading mine and now I can't live without it. I love my mornings spent with God reading His Word and praying. I too love Christian music! I like to listen to ksbj in Houston. I found it on someone's blog many years ago and started listening then. Just google it. :) Don't be discouraged by anyone or anything because now that you have shared your testimony and are growing in your faith satan will attack you and discourage you. You areheaded in the right direction and keep praying for your husband. Respect Him and encourage him and before you know it he will be with you in church. Prayers for you today. You are my sister-in-Christ now!! =D

  18. Welcome to the family of Christ, Tamara! This post was very inspiring. I'm going to say a prayer for you tonight: that you'll continue to seek and find answers, that you'll find encouragement and support in this new walk of faith, and that you'll grow in the knowledge of God.
Being a Christian doesn't guarantee us an easy life. But it does mean that our Jesus will be right there beside us through it all.

  24. How exciting! I read both Becky and Sasha's blog but rarely comment on theirs. I was touched by what Becky had to say about you and had to read for myself. This life of following God is tough, but keep going. You asked for song suggestions so I'll let you know two that have sustained me in a tough time I'm currently going through. They are David Crowder Band's "How He Loves" and Tenth Avenue North's "Times". They might be too intense for the daily rotation but you may still enjoy them? Love, Tabitha

  25. Hello Little Sister! Welcome to the family! Praising and rejoicing through music is my favorite way to communicate with the Lord--in any circumstance. It seems that just as there is a verse for everything, I can also find a song to "fit." I love anything by Michael W. Smith. His songs always touch my heart and they are fun to sing. When I first came to know the Lord, Amy Grant helped me learn a lot through her music. Check both of them out. There are so many great Christian artists to choose from but these two are great if you want to sing along. "Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say REJOICE!" Amen!

  27. Visiting from FGP and would like to welcome you into the family. What a big decision it is to give your life back to the person that gave it to you. I pray that you will always seek Him in everything and never doubt your decision. He will put people in your life that will encourage you and help you along the way and a lot of them have already posted to let you know they will be here for you, even me:) God bless you. As far as music goes "The anchor holds" by Ray Boltz. Awwww I still cry when I hear that song. Also, Hillsong has good albums and Barlow girl:)

  30. Came here from Becky's place. This is so awesome! I love the way you shared your story. Just know that you aren't behind at all by not knowing about religion. (Many of us who grew up learning about it are now trying to un-learn much of it.)It's not about what we know, memorize, recite. It's not about how much time we spend in prayer. It's about embracing the wild grace and love of God and sharing that love with those around us. It's about dying to self so that we can really live.

Like you, I'm really moved by music. I'll keep the list short so as not to overwhelm you. :)

Leeland - The Great Awakening, Love is on the Move
Nichole Nordeman - Wide Eyed, Brave
    Rich Mullins - Songs

I could go on and on!

Praying you see tangible evidence of God's love around you today.

  38. Hi Tamara, I'm here via Sasha (LMM) and I'm so pleased to hear you've decided to give your life to Jesus and so glad you felt welcomed. Don't worry about not knowing much Bible, it's never too late to start and the Lord will make sure you see the bits he wants you to, as long as you're reading! I am co-leader of a Bible study group for mums and it's been fantastic to see some women who had very little Bible knowledge saying how much they've learned and how amazed they are when different bits they read in different places (alone, in study group, in church) all fit together to reveal something they really needed to know!
    God bless you xx

  45. OH Tamara, it's such a gift to all of us, your Christian sisters, to hear of your holding out your hand and heart to Jesus! So many of us hear the heart of God in music, so pick a Christian radio station, and start learning to know what you like... there is so much out there! It really helped me to listen, to podcasts and the music. Music is the satin ribbon around a new heart committed and reaching out to the Lord! God Bless.

  49. I'm so happy that you've found the Lord. I'm totally a music person. I sing in my church praise band. During some low points in my life, when I first started my real "grown up" life, it was music like Christy Nockels (Watermark) that helped me keep my feet grounded. These days I rock out to Jesus Culture, Third Day, and David Crowder Band. I'm a mom with 2 kids now, but I've been thinking about buying a guitar and learning how to play so I can lead worship right in our house!

Would love to hear how things are going.

  56. Beautiful testimony, Tamera! I was also raised in a non-religious home and turned Christian as an adult.

If you don't already have a study bible, I highly recommend getting one. When I attended my first bible study group I had a regular "old school" bible and one of the readings was from 1 Corinthians and the question was why did Paul ask (I don't remember the exact question)... I couldn't figure out why they were asking about Paul, the reading didn't even mention him! LOL!

My favorite song is "Amazing Love" :)

    Have a blessed day!!

  57. Oh Tamara you're bringing tears to my eyes just thinking about you tearing up at church!! My church for a long time has been full of families that have been going there for generations but has recently been doing everything we can to seek out to the community more. Just thinking that someone like you who's hearing it for the first time could be sitting next to me in church makes everything different, you know? It's just a beautiful thing!! Oh dear I'm crying again :) It doesn't help that I copied and pasted the song from the comment above me, I know it well but it still touches my heart!!

My husband and I are going to be praying for you as you start your journey and relationship with God. If you ever have ANY prayer requests please feel free to let me know at allthatbringsjoy at gmail dot com. :)

  66. Hi Tamara - I'm popping over from Sasha's blog to say welcome to the family! I will pray for you - that your faith will take root deeply and that you will grow in the Lord! I'll pray for your hubby too - that he will see you grow and long to have the same relationship with God that you now have! Keep reading the Bible - it's the unchanging Word of God - a precious love-letter to those who have placed their trust in His Son Jesus Christ. God promises that His Holy Spirit will make His Word clear to you - isn't that amazing? I'm sure you'll have lots of questions too though, so don't be afraid to ask! I'd love to say more but I don't want to overwhelm you - just know that you are warmly welcomed!

  69. Praise God that He chose you for His own!
Here is one of my favorite songs by Francesca Battistelli:

Don’t know how it is You looked at me
And saw the person that I could be
    Awakening my heart
    Breaking through the dark
    Suddenly Your grace

    (Chorus)
    Like sunlight burning at midnight
    Making my life something so
    Beautiful, beautiful
    Mercy reaching to save me
    All that I need
    You are so
    Beautiful, beautiful

    Now there’s a joy inside I can’t contain
But even perfect days can end in rain
    And though it’s pouring down
I see You through the clouds
    Shining on my face

    (Chorus)

    I have come undone
    But I have just begun
    Changing by Your grace

    (Chorus)

  72. Hi Tamara - dropping over from Sasha's blog and want to say Welcome to the family of Christ. It's so incredible... the internet makes the world smaller so we can build relationships we once could not. But the sacrificial, healing work of Christ means that we can now build relationships that are ETERNAL.

I'd say anything by Casting Crowns, they speak to the truth, but I gotta add that "My Father's House" by Audio Adrenaline is one of my very, very favorites.

    God bless, sister! ~Tam Hanley

  74. Hi Tamara, I'm here from Sasha's blog. I am so excited over the commitment that you made to follow Christ. I agree with everyone else, that it is an amazing thing to follow Him. The angels in heaven are rejoicing over your decision to make Jesus the Lord of your life. My prayer for you is that you will enjoy the wonderful Journey of getting to know your Savior and falling in love with His Word more and more each day!!

With regard to music, there are so many wonderful Christian artists, it's so hard to name them all. If you'd like to visit my blog, I have all Christian music on my Playlist. You can listen to it and see if there are any that really tug at your heart!! God bless you as you seek Him daily!!

  77. Welcome to the family! Having a church family is good but just remember that there is a lot of confusion in churches today. God created ONE church, Christ's body and once you are saved, you become part of that church. There are many denominations out there that want to try to sway you to their way of thinking. If you have questions, go to the Word of God. He is the true way. It will take a while since this is all new to you but just take it one day at a time and remember that he is a God of grace, love and forgiveness. He will carry you through. Life's a journey but so much better with the Creator to guide you through. As for music, I really enjoy listening to the Booth Brothers. In fact, they have a fun song called, "Welcome to the Family". Check it out and others on Youtube. God bless and looking forward to meeting you in heaven some day!

  80. Hi Tamara! I'm visiting from Lemonade Makin' Mama, just popping in to say "Welcome to the family!" :) I'm thrilled to hear you've decided to give your heart to Christ! It's a wild ride, but loving Him makes it all worthwhile! As for music, I LOVE the worship albums put out by Bethel Church from Redding, CA. My favorites are The Loft (which is more acoustic, simple worship), Be Lifted High and Here is Love (all available on iTunes or through Amazon). Those are all fantastic albums, FULL of songs that give glory to God and are so uplifting and encouraging. I hope that helps!

  81. I'm so excited for you Tamara! There is nothing like having Jesus as your very best friend. He will never leave or forsake you and He is never more than a whisper away. I'll be praying for you along with Sasha and Becky! (I follow their blogs too)
Some of my favorite christian artists are Francesca Battestelli, Jeremy Camp, Newsboys, Chris Tomlin. I pretty much like all of their songs so there is no choosing just one! :)

  83. Tamara I was thinking about you this morning while I was listening to one of my favorite radio stations. I'm not sure if anyone has told you about K Love yet. It's a Christian radio station that you can listen to online or through an app. They might even have a radio station in your area. Go to www.klove.com and check it out! They have started a challenge to listen to only Christian music for a year to see how it changes your life. It's never to late to start :) The music is so encouraging.

  86. WOOHOO! Heaven's having a party!!

as far as music goes...I like Lecrae and Rachael Lampa and Crystal Lewis. I like older Mary Mary and Kirk Franklin stuff. I'm more likely to like something if it sounds like mainstream pop music, not the contemporary Christian stuff. But you can go online to one of the online music sites like Pandora and enter in a Christian artist and then look to see who they recommend is like that artist.
